Look to the Lighthouse
When you are challenged with mental health, you never really know what your day may look like. There may be times when you find it difficult to navigate through unforeseen circumstances of life. Every day you wake up hoping and praying your day will be peaceful and smooth sailing, but that is not the reality of life for anyone.
Our lives can resemble that of mariners rolling up and down with the waves of the sea. They too hope and pray for calm seas and smooth sailing. Yet experience tells them they need to be prepared for the unpredictable. Ships face several challenges that result from various types of conditions at sea. The unpredictable changes in weather and the effect it has on the waters. As a result, they have navigation issues and challenges geographically, depending on where they are. Their greatest concern is knowing how the ship will hold up through the storm. Some storms are small and short lived. Other storms last 24-48 hours, and still others can last a week or more.
When a ship on the sea is in the middle of a storm getting buffeted by fierce waves it can be difficult to navigate and see what is right in front of them. They don't know exactly what they will encounter. They use all the navigation equipment they have available to them to keep afloat and to stay on course. Their objective is to avoid the storm, and if at all possible, to go around it. They try to avoid drifting into the eye of the storm where they know is dangerous and life threatening.
One of the things they look for is a lighthouse.
When you are being buffeted by the storms of life the best decision you can make to tell yourself that succumbing to the storm is not an option. Look for the lighthouse — Look to Jesus. By looking to Jesus and HIs word, He will help you to navigate through the rough waters of life, whether it be simply a bad day, depression, anxiety, negative thoughts, stress, fear, anger, or hopelessness.
As ships use their navigation equipment to distance themselves from the storm, you need to use your navigation tools to do the same.
