God's Servants Struggled with Mental Health
The Bible is filled with stories of God’s faithful servants who, despite their close relationship with Him, struggled with deep emotional distress, anxiety, and even despair. These stories remind us that we are not alone in our struggles and that God understands and cares about our mental well-being. Even the mightiest men and women of faith experienced moments of overwhelming sorrow, yet God met them where they were, offering comfort, strength, and renewal.

Even the great apostle Paul, who spread the gospel to the nations, admitted to feeling burdened beyond what he could bear. In 2 Corinthians 1:8, he wrote, “For we would not, brethren, have you ignorant of our trouble which came to us in Asia, that we were pressed out of measure, above strength, insomuch that we despaired even of life.” Paul, like many of us, faced overwhelming circumstances, but he found his hope in God, realizing that his weakness was an opportunity for God's strength to be revealed.
And then there is Jesus Himself, who in the Garden of Gethsemane, experienced extreme anguish before His crucifixion. Luke 22:44 tells us that "being in agony, he prayed more earnestly; and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground." Jesus, though fully God, experienced the depths of human sorrow and distress. Yet, He entrusted Himself to the Father and found strength to fulfill His purpose.

Philippians 4:6-7 says, “Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus..” Bringing our burdens to God through prayer allows His peace to replace our anxiety.
2. Meditate on God’s Word - The Bible is filled with promises that can uplift the heart and strengthen the mind. Psalm 119:28 says, “My soul melteth for heaviness: strengthen thou me according unto thy word.” Meditating on Scripture reminds us of God’s love, faithfulness, and power to sustain us through difficult times.
3. Find Strength in God’s Presence - God promises to be near to the brokenhearted. Psalm 34:18 says, “The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.” No matter how dark the situation feels, God is always present, offering comfort and hope.

9. Walk by Faith, Not by Feelings - Feelings can be unreliable, but God’s truth never changes. 2 Corinthians 5:7 reminds us, “For we walk by faith, not by sight.” Faith in God's promises allows us to press forward even when emotions tell us otherwise.
10. Remember That Healing is Possible - God is our healer—emotionally, spiritually, and physically. Psalm 147:3 declares, “He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds.” While the healing process may take time, God is faithful to restore and strengthen those who seek Him.
