The Blessed Man

"Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in His law doth he meditate day and night."  Psalm 1:1, 2

What kind of a Christian are you? Are you a happy Christian, that enjoys every day of life, no matter what it brings. Or are you a miserable Christian, that wakes up each day just longing for it to come to an end? Do you murmur and complain about every little thing, and everyone around you? Does the fruit of your lips or your life testify to your dissatisfaction of God's care and provisions for you? Or does your life testify of His great mercy, kindness, and love that He extends to you?

The word ungodly signifies such as are unsettled, aim at no certain end and walk by no certain rule, but are at the command of every lust and at the beck of every temptation. There are people who generally may be good people but who do not take God into consideration, and there are a lot of brillant people who have talents, intelligence, and ability, and may even be successful, yet they rule out the word of God; it is not the governing principle in their life. Therefore we should not walk in their counsel, behave ourselves according to their counsel, or live our lives based off of their counsel. If they are ungodly, they shoud not be of whom we take counsel. Our counsel should come from godly people who's lives are governed by the word of God. The blessed man does not do certain things. There is a way he will not walk, a path he will not stand in, and a seat he will not sit in.

The blessed man stands not in the way of sinners; he avoids doing as they do; their way will not be his way; he will not come into it, much less will he continue in it, as the sinner does, who puts himself in a path that is not good. The happy Christian avoids being where they are (unless trying to witness). He does not imitate his behavior. The ungodly have a path where they stand, and the righteous man knows he does not bleong on that path. The blessed man is not to travel in the same direction as the ungodly. The blessed man is not afraid to take a less-traveled road, because he knows it leads to blessings, happiness, and eternal life.

The blessed man does not sit in the seat of the scornful. The scornful love to sit and criticize the people of God and the things of God. The blessed man will not sit in that seat, doing as the ungodly. When others are putting down Christians, it is easy to sit with them and criticize them. It is easy because there are many things to criticize among Christians. But it is wrong, because we are then sitting in the seat of the scornful. There will always be Christians who do not think just like you, or do just like you. But it does not mean that they are necessarily wrong, and it does not give you license to criticize.

The blessed man's delight is in the law of the Lord; and in His law doth he meditate day and night. If a person delights in something, you don't have to beg them to do it or to like it. They will do it all by themselves. You can measure your delight for the word of God by how much you hunger for it. The blessed man ponders the word of God. He does not just hear it and forgets it, he thinks about it, he meditates on it. The goal is to fill your mind with the word of God, and think on each word and phrase, and apply it to your self and pray it back to the Lord.
