CONTENTMENT
1 Timothy 6:6
Godliness with contentment is great gain.

Proverbs 14:30
A sound heart is the life of the flesh: but envy the rottenness of the bones.

Proverbs 17:22
A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.

Proverbs 15:15
All the days of the afflicted are evil: but he that is of a merry heart hath a continual feast.

Hebrews 13:5
Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.

Proverbs 23:17, 18
Let not thine heart envy sinners: but be thou in the fear of the LORD all the day long. For surely there is an end; and thine expectation shall not be cut off.

MORTIFICATION OF SIN
Romans 8:13
If ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.

Matthew 5:29, 30
If thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell. And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.

TO THE SPIRITUALLY-MINDED
Romans 8:6
To be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.

Contentment and Mortification
The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. 2 Peter 3:9

Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness. 14 Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless. 2 Peter 3:13-14

And this is the promise that he hath promised us, even eternal life. 1 John 2:25

The work of transformation from unholiness to holiness is a continuous one. Day by day God labors for man’s sanctification, and man is to co-operate with Him, putting forth persevering efforts in the cultivation of right habits. He is to add grace to grace; and as he thus works on the plan of addition, God works for him on the plan of multiplication. Our Saviour is always ready to hear and answer the prayer of the contrite heart, and grace and peace are multiplied to His faithful ones. Gladly He grants them the blessings they need in their struggle against the evils that beset them. AA 532
